John Freitas is a licensed acupuncturist by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine. He graduated from the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA) with a master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) in 2001. While studying at NESA, he developed an interest in community acupuncture through internships at Dimock Community Health Center in Roxbury and AIDS Care Project in Boston.
His advanced training includes in-depth explorations of Traditional Chinese Medicine classics with Jeffrey Yuen, studying with Acupuncturists Without Borders, and more recently acupuncture pediatrics. For years, John was on the staff at Greenfield Community Acupuncture and part of the peer-support organization Western Mass Recovery Learning Community, providing group acupuncture in Greenfield, Holyoke, and Springfield.
John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition from Cornell University and has completed a dietetic internship at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. While in San Francisco he was a volunteer with the Haight Ashbury Free Medical Clinic in their HIV Early Intervention Program. Following this training, he worked as a clinical dietitian, providing nutritional care and counseling to people in both inpatient and outpatient settings in hospitals in Cambridge, MA.
John has been living in Florence since 2001 and can often be seen walking the local roads, rail trails and Look Park loop with his family and dog, Mabel, or at the Civic Center Porch Concerts. He is excited for the opportunity to serve his local community on the staff at Stay in Touch.
